Purpose
Privacy
What you write in Purpose is among the most personal data a person can give. The design answer is simple: we never receive it.
Where your data lives
Your journey — every reflection, your profile, and your companion conversations — is stored only in this browser, on your device (browser local storage). There are no accounts, no server-side databases, and no analytics or tracking scripts. Nothing is saved at all until you accept the consent note at the Threshold.
The companion and your Claude key
The companion runs on your own Claude API key. The key is stored only in this browser, and your browser sends companion conversations (including the profile that seeds them) directly to Anthropic — they never pass through our servers. Anthropic processes them under its own privacy policy. You pay Anthropic directly for your own usage. If this site offers a shared connection instead, those requests pass through this site’s server to Anthropic but are not stored or logged there.
Your controls
From the settings menu (the gear, top right) you can export everything as a file, remove your Claude key, or permanently delete everything — journey, conversations, and key — in one action. Deletion is real: the data exists nowhere else to linger.
Honest caveats
Because everything lives in your browser: anyone with access to your device and browser profile could read it, clearing site data in your browser erases your journey, and your data does not follow you across devices. Use your own device, and export a copy if it matters to you.
This page describes the application’s actual behavior. Purpose is a reflection tool, not therapy or medical, financial, or legal advice.
